Can a bad distributor cause no spark?

Cracks or carbon tracks on the distributor cap allow the spark to short to ground. It could cause a faulty connection inside the distributor cap if it shorted out. There is a problem in the spark plugs. Look for cracks or carbon traces in the cap.
