Can a bad voltage regulator drain the battery?

When the vehicle is not being driven, a leaking diode can allow the current to drain out of the battery. Charging problems can be caused by a faulty voltage regulator. Many late-model vehicles use the PCM to control charging output, whereas older vehicles have external voltage regulators.
