Can a smart thermostat detect room occupancy?

The room sensors detect the amount of people present. If a room is occupied, room sensors can make decisions. Is this true? Most smart thermostats only measure the temperature in the room in which they are located. Room Sensors use their built-in temperature sensors to tell ecobee4 which rooms are occupied and which rooms are not.
