Can I replace a double pole breaker with two single pole breakers?

Two pole breakers to one pole breaker. You'll have to return to the double-pole breaker if you decide to use the red wire again. Two single-pole breakers can't be used for a multiwire circuit. For single pole use, capping off the red is ok.
