Can I use 16 gauge wire for lighting?

The 18-caliber wire inside a lamp cable is rated for a maximum current stroke of about 5 amps. If the same bulb works with a power of 12 volts, however, it must put the cable to 16- or even 14-caliber to avoid falling voltage and dark lights.
