Can low water pressure damage a washing machine?

Can a washing machine be damaged by low water pressure? Sometimes the inlet water pressure is reduced because of a problem with the pipe lines or the strainer in the hose. As it takes more time to fill the drum, the reduced water pressure only increases the washing cycle time.
