Can you change a 10 amp breaker to 20 amps?

Yes, the answer is. Substitute the higher amperage circuit breaker if the wiring is rated higher. As long as you follow other rules such as matching the breaker to the equipment and the receptacle, this is true. This doesn't have anything to do with the distance.
