Can you plug an air conditioner into a power strip?

The AC that will plug into a standard outlet is rated at or below 15 Amps. The power strips are rated at 15 Amps. The power strips have a rating of 10 or less. Is that correct? An air conditioner should only be plugged into a dedicated outlet with its own breaker.
