Can you put isolation valves on central heating pipes?

Isolates on central heating pipes. Is that correct? The problem is that the bore of these valves is small and can restrict the flow to the radiator stopping it from getting hot. If all is well, then leave them as they are, even if the system contains an amount of sludge.
