Can you replace a 30 amp breaker with a 40 amp breaker?

Excess current flowing through the system is protected by that 30A breaker. The ceiling will be raised on the allowed current. You swap out a 30A breaker for a 40A one. You're allowing the electrical system to run at a higher rate than it's rated capacity.
