Can you use a dc fuse in an ac circuit?

The voltage rating of the circuit it is protecting is the most important thing. It's possible to put a higher rated fuse in a circuit but the amperage is the same. Is that correct? The DC fuse wouldn't work in an AC circuit. That would be an equivalent rating of about 20A.
