Can you use oven cleaner to clean cast iron?

For heavily rusted cast iron, fill the pan with hot, soapy water, then scrub with a steel-wool pad or metal chain-mail scrubber. If that doesn't work, spray the pan with an oven cleaner outside. After rinsing the pan, dry it in an oven, then wipe it down with oil.
