Do you have to add water to a boiler?

Water is being added to the Boiler. If your house has water pipes that run through it as a form of heat, you have a boiler. Is this true? The boiler kicks on and warms the water that flows through the heating pipes when the thermostat calls for more heat. Over time, there may be some water loss that needs to be added.
