Do you need a ground wire for a gfci outlet?

A ground wire is not needed in order to trip correctly. When a fault is detected on the neutral wire, a GFCI simply trips. An ungrounded outlet won't trip when you use it. I apply pressure to the test button in order to make sure it's working.
