Do you put gasket sealer on thermostat housing?

Start with a clean intake and thermostat housing. You should use a new gasket. I always recommend using one made for the application if you feel the need to use sealant. Is that correct? Sometimes I use rubber gask-a-sinch or copper kote to hold the thermostat in place.
