Does a furnace need a drain?

Most furnaces have at least one internal drain for the heat exchanger and one for the vent, usually at the inducer outlet or the inducer housing. A trap is where all the condensate drains go. It is mandatory for a high-efficiency gas furnace to have a condensate trap.
