Does it matter which way a solenoid is wired?

When you're wiring a solenoid, make sure to connect the negative (ground) cable to the negative battery terminal at the transmission, engine cylinder block, or close to the starter. Next, make sure to connect the positive cable to the positive battery terminal at the starter solenoid. A poor connection or wiring job at one of the battery cables can prevent the starter motor from running.
