Does plastic explode in the microwave?

Paper bags, plastic bags, and newspapers should not be used in the microwave. They are not sanitary, may cause a fire, and may emit toxic fumes, according to the USDA. Is that correct? The steam in the egg is created by the rapid heat from the microwaves. The steam doesn't have a place to go except to explode so that's what it does.
