Does pvc pipe break?

The soil movement is one of the reasons for the failure of the pipes. While it is more flexible than a number of other pipe materials, it does have a breaking point. When too much cement is applied, PVC can break down. It's just as bad if you don't use enough cement because bonds will be weak.
