Water Dispenser Not Working? You May Have a Dirty Water Filter

When your refrigerator's water dispenser stops releasing water, you may have a dirty water filter in need of a replacement.

How Do I Know If I Have a Dirty Water Filter?

Water dispensers use filters to ensure your water is clean and free of harsh metals. Water filters need to be replaced regularly to provide safe drinking water. If your fridge’s water dispenser stops releasing water, this could indicate a dirty water filter-- it’s time for a replacement.

How to check for a dirty water filter

  • If your refridgerator has an electronic display, look for an error message.

  • If you see an error that says "filter", then it's time for a filter change. If the error says something other than "filter", check your fridge's user manual to see what the error means.

Replacing Your Refrigerator's Dirty Water Filter

If it's time for a change, purchase a replacement filter. There's typically two models — twist-on and push-in. You are able to do this yourself, but some expert guidance never hurts!
