How are diodes marked?

A diode has two terminals: one positive (anode) and one negative (cathode). The cathode is likely marked with a gray stripe, making it easier to distinguish between the two terminals. Electric current can only flow from the anode to the cathode, so it's important to have the diode connected in the right direction.
