How do i know if my voltage regulator is bad on my tractor?

The power to the battery will be erratic if the voltage regulator is bad. If you put a voltmeter on the battery terminals and the car is idling, it will read about 12 to 13 volts, and if you have someone slowly raise the engine's idling time, you will see the volts go up to about 14-15 volts.
