How do I replace a Control Panel in a Dishwasher?

The control panel, also called the control console, should be replaced when it becomes loose or damaged. The dishwasher can become unresponsive if a button is stuck. There is a light on the control panel.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off electrical power.

If you want to completely remove electrical power from the dishwasher, you need to flip the house circuit breaker switch to the Off position. Make sure the control panel can't be used to turn on the power. Don't try to access internal components until the power is out.

  2. Remove the inner door panel.

The control panel is secured to the front of the dishwasher door with the help of the Torx screws. The screws need to be removed from the inner panel.

  3. Disconnect the control panel.

The control panel should be folded. The ribbon wire harness has a locking tab that keeps it in place, and it plugs into the electronic control panel. The control panel needs to be disconnected from the wire harness. The ribbon wire is secured to the control panel in some models. Remove the ribbon cable from the control board.

  4. Disconnect other wiring connections.

There is a second wired connection to the control panel in some dishwashers. Remove the control panel from the dishwasher. If your dishwasher has more than one wire, you should remove the other wire connection.

  5. Connect the wire harness.

The packing material and protective covers need to be removed from the control panel. The dishwasher door has a control panel at the top. Plug the 2 ribbon wire harnesses into the new control board if the model has them. The locked position is where they should snap into.

  6. Reattach the inner door panel.

The inner door panel has screws in it. Don't overtighten the screws, it could strip the threads.

  7. Restore electrical power.

The dishwasher's electrical power can be restored by flipping the house circuit breaker switch. After you have restored electricity, the dishwasher, display should light up. The control dishwasher buttons should work if you test them.

Time required: 15 minutes.

You would need the following tools: Torx screwdriver.
