How do I replace a Door Switch in an Upright Freezer?

The door switch can be used to turn on and off interior freezer lighting. If the door switch doesn't detect a door opening, the interior lighting won't work. If the door switch doesn't detect door closing, the door alarm will start. The door switch needs to be replaced if it doesn't work.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Disconnect the electrical power.

Shut off the circuit breaker for the freezer if you want to unplug it.

  2. Remove the front grille.

Pull the grille off by removing the screws holding it to the freezer base.

  3. Remove the door switch.

Push the door switch out if you reach under the freezer. Remove the door switch from the cabinet by squeezing the locking tab on the right side. The wires need to be disconnected and the door switch removed.

  4. Install the new door switch.

The wires need to be connected to the door switch. Attach the new door switch to the cabinet.

  5. Reinstall the grille.

Attach the grille to the base of the freezer.

  6. Restore electrical power.

You can restore power by plugging in the freezer or the house circuit breaker.

Time required: 15 minutes.

You would need the following tools: Phillips screwdriver, work gloves.
