How do I replace a Drain Pump in a Dishwasher?

The dishwasher drain pump should be replaced if it's cracked or damaged. Make sure the drain path is not blocked before you replace it. The drain pump will fail if the drain path is clear. If the drain pump won't run, it's time to replace it.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off electrical power

Shut off the house circuit breaker if you want to unplug the dishwasher. The control panel should not light up if you press a control button or the power button.

  2. Remove the outer door panel and control panel

The outer door panel doesn't fall if you remove the final 2 screws from the inner door panel. The outer door panel should be separated from the inner door panel and the control panel should be disconnected. Remove the outer door panel and control panel.

  3. Remove the bottom front access panel and toe panel

The screws that hold the toe panel in place should be removed using a nut driver. The access panel and the toe panel need to be removed.

  4. Remove the drain pump

Put a towel under the drain pump. If necessary, use channel-lock pliers to squeeze the wire hose that holds the drain hose on the drain pump. The drain pump has a drain hose. The drain pump has a wire harness on it. Press down on the locking tab and the pump will turn clockwise to pull it out. The towel should be removed. Pull the dishwasher out from under the counter if you can't access the drain hose and pump. Refer to the dishwasher installation manual as a guide.

  5. Install the new drain pump

To prevent leaks, Lubricate the O-ring water seal on the new drain pump with a light coat of rinse aid. The locking tab will snap into place if the new drain pump is inserted in the sump opening. The wire harness needs to be plugged into the drain pump receptacle. Attach the drain hose to the drain pump. The drain pump outlet has a drain hose on it.

  6. Reinstall the bottom front access panel and toe panel

Put the access panel in front of the toe panel on the dishwasher. Put the screws in and tighten them.

  7. Reinstall the outer door panel and control panel

If you want to connect the user interface control wire harness, position the outer door panel and control panel close to the inner door. Attach the outer door panel and control panel to the inner door panel by connecting the user interface control wire harness. The mounting screws need to be reinstalled. The longer screws can be used to secure the control panel.

  8. Restore electrical power

Plug in the dishwasher or reset the house circuit breaker.

Time required:

30 minutes.

You would need the following tools:

channel lock pliers, nut driver set, rinse aid (to lubricate seals), slot screwdriver, towel, work gloves.
