How do I replace a Drum Glide Bearing in a Dryer?

The front of the dryer drum has a plastic bearing. When the drum is rotating, the felt seal of the front panel allows the front of the drum to glide smoothly. The plastic bearing should be replaced if it is worn out or broken.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off the power

Plug the dryer in. Shut off the gas if it is a gas dryer. You should wear gloves to protect your hands.

  2. Raise the top panel

The lint screen needs to be removed from the top panel of the dryer. To remove the 2 screws that secure the lint screen housing to the top panel, use aPhillips screwdriver. To release the clips that lock the top of the dryer in place, push a putty knife under the lid. Put the top against the wall behind the dryer.

  3. Remove the front panel

The locking tab on thewire harness plug can be released with a slot screwdriver. Remove the wire harness. The front panel mounting screws need to be removed with a 5/16-inch nut driver. Lift and unhook the front panel from the 2 bottom hangers after pulling it forward. Put the front panel of the dryer away.

  4. Remove the drum

Take a picture of the belt on the idler pulley and the motor pulley so you know how to remove it. To release tension on the belt, push the idler pulley to the right. The drive belt should be removed from the motor pulley. Put the drum out of the dryer. You can lift the drum up and out of the dryer cabinet with the drive belt you just released.

  5. Remove the drum glide bearing

Push the tabs through the openings in the edge of the drum by squeezing them together. Pull the half of the drum that's bearing out.

  6. Install the new drum glide bearing

Attach the locking tabs on the new drum glide bearing with the openings in the drum and snap it into place.

  7. Replace the felt seal

Pull the felt seal out of the channel in front of the panel. The dryer cabinet should be vacuumed while the cabinet is open.

  8. Reinstall the drum

There is a support roller on the rear panel of the dryer cabinet. The drive motor and idler pulley can be accessed by lifting the front of the drum. Referred to the digital picture of the configuration, thread the drive belt through the idler pulley. To loop the drive belt over the motor pulley, push the idler pulley to the right.

  9. Reinstall the front panel

The front panel should be on the bottom of the cabinet. Remove the screws from the top of the front panel and plug it into the door switch. The locking tab needs to be engaged properly.

  10. Reassemble the top panel

Put the top panel in place by lowering it. Attach the screws to the lint duct housing.

  11. Restore power to the dryer

The dryer can be plugged into the wall outlet. If it is a gas dryer, turn on the gas supply.
