How do I replace a Drum Support Roller in a Dryer?

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off the power

Plug the dryer. Shut the gas off if you have a gas dryer. Gloves are used to protect hands.

  2. Raise the top panel

The top panel of the dryer has a lint screen in it. The lint screen housing should be removed with aPhillips screwdriver. Push a knife under the lid near the left and right edges of the front of the dryer to release the clips that keep the top of the dryer in place. Place the top against the wall behind the dryer.

  3. Remove the front panel

The door switch has a locking tab on the wire harness plug. The wire harness should be disconnected. To remove the frontpanel mounting screws from the inside of the cabinet, use a 5/16-inch nut driver. Lift the front panel from the 2 bottom hangers. Put the front panel away.

  4. Remove the drum

Take a picture of the belt on the idler pulley and the motor pulley so you know how to remove it. To release tension on the belt, push the idler pulley to the right. The drive belt should be removed from the motor pulley. Put the drum out of the dryer. You can lift the drum up and out of the dryer cabinet with the drive belt you just released.

  5. Remove the drum support roller

To remove the triangular washer from the drum support roller, use a slot screwdriver. The drum support roller is on the shaft. The dryer cabinet should be vacuumed while the cabinet is open.

  6. Install the new drum support roller

The triangular washer is needed to secure the drum support roller onto the shaft.

  7. Reinstall the drum

There is a support roller on the rear panel of the dryer cabinet. The drive motor and idler pulley can be accessed by lifting the front of the drum. Referred to the digital picture of the configuration, thread the drive belt through the idler pulley. To loop the drive belt over the motor pulley, push the idler pulley to the right.

  8. Reinstall the front panel

The front panel should be on the bottom of the cabinet. Remove the screws from the top of the front panel and place it in the dryer cabinet. The wire harness needs to be plugged into the door switch. The locking tab needs to be engaged properly.

  9. Reassemble the top panel

Put the top panel in place by lowering it. Attach the screws to the lint duct housing.

  10. Restore power to the dryer

The dryer can be plugged into the wall outlet. If it is a gas dryer, turn on the gas supply.
