How do I replace a Fan Assembly in a Dishwasher?

During the drying cycle, the vent opening at the bottom of the dishwasher door allows the fan to get hot, moist air out of the dishwasher. If the vent doesn't open or the fan doesn't run, the dishes won't dry. The dishwasher stops in the middle of the cycle if the fan fails and the control panel goes blank. If the fan or vent fails, replace it with a new one.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off electrical power.

Shut off the house circuit breaker if you want to unplug the dishwasher. The control panel should not light up if you press a control button or the power button. Skip step 5 if you want to confirm the problem with the fan. The fan is the problem if the control panel lights up.

  2. Remove the door vent grille.

You can open the dishwasher door. Carefully push the vent grille to release and remove it with a slot screwdriver.

  3. Remove the outer door panel and control panel.

The dishwasher door can be opened by removing the screws from the inner door panel. The outer door panel needs to be supported with one hand as you remove the last 2 screws. The outer door panel should be separated from the inner door panel and the control panel should be disconnected from the control panel. Remove the outer door panel.

  4. Remove the vent and fan assembly.

The wire harness needs to be removed from the vent and fan. Pull the vent and fan assembly from the dishwasher door after releasing the mounting clips.

  5. Install the new vent and fan assembly.

Attach the vent and fan assembly to the duct. Attach the clips on the door to the vent and fan assembly. The new vent and fan assembly needs to be connected to the fan and vent wire harnesses.

  6. Reinstall the outer door panel and control panel.

If you want to connect the user interface control wire harness, position the outer door panel and control panel close to the inner door. Attach the outer door panel and control panel to the inner door panel by connecting the user interface control wire harness. The mounting screws need to be reinstalled. The longer screws can be used to secure the control panel.

  7. Reinstall the door vent grille.

You can open the dishwasher door. To lock the vent grill in place, push the door vent grille into the opening and rotating the vent grille clockwise. The vent grille needs to be pushed with a slot screwdriver.

  8. Restore electrical power.

Plug in the dishwasher or reset the house circuit breaker.

Time required: 30 minutes.

You would need the following tools: slot screwdriver, Torx screwdriver, work gloves.
