How do I replace a Resistance Motor in an Elliptical Machine?

The pedal resistance is adjusted by the distance of the C-magnet from the flywheel. The resistance motor should be replaced if it does not move when activated.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Release the lower upright cover

Use a slot screwdriver to pry up the lower upright cover. To release the upright cover from the side shields, slide it up on the upright.

  2. Remove the left pedal arm

Pull the left pedal arm cover off after removing the left pedal arm cover screw. If you want to remove the screw from the left crank arm, use an Allen wrench. Pull the left pedal arm and washers off the crank arm shaft.

  3. Remove the left shield

The left and right shields have screws on them. The left shield has to be removed.

  4. Release the resistance motor

Don't remove the resistance motor mounting screws. The resistance motor should be removed from the mounting screws and slid down and off.

  5. Disconnect the cable

The cable lock nut should be loosened. The cable needs to be released from the frame. The cable is in the motor housing. The cable needs to be removed from the motor pulley.

  6. Remove the resistance motor

The wire harness retainer can be cut using a wire cutter. The wire harness on the motor needs to be disconnected. The resistance motor has to be removed.

  7. Install the new resistance motor

Attach the wire harness to the motor. Attach the wire harness to the elliptical frame with a cable tie. The motor pulley has a cable on it. The cable should be put into the slot on the motor housing. The cable lock nut needs to be reinstalled. Put the motor under the 2 mounting screws. The mounting screws need to be tightened.

  8. Reinstall the left shield

Stand up the shields. The shield mounting screws have to be reinstalled.

  9. Reinstall the left pedal arm

Push the pedal arm over the crank arm shaft. The crank arm shaft has a D-washer on it. The lock washer and flat washer should be put on the Allen screw. Remove the Allen screw from the crank arm and tighten it counterclockwise. The crank arm shaft should be positioned over the pedal arm cover. Remove the pedal arm mounting screw.

  10. Reinstall the lower upright cover

Attach the lower upright cover to the upright by snapping it over the side shields.

Time required:
