The timer uses a switch to measure the position of a valve. The valve motor runs continuously if the timer can't detect the position of the valve. If the valve motor runs continuously, you should replace the rotor position switch.
Follow these steps to fix your issue:
Disconnect electrical power
Shut off the power to the water softener.
Remove the top cover
Release the 2 front clips on the cover when you open the lid. Lift the front of the cover to release the tabs. Pull the top cover off.
Remove the valve motor
Lift the valve motor off the rotor by removing the valve motor mounting screws.
Remove the rotor position switch
The plastic cover needs to be removed. The mounting pins have a rotor position switch on them. The wires need to be disconnected. The position switch needs to be removed.
Install the new rotor position switch
The wires need to be connected to the switch. Remove the plastic cover and push the new rotor position switch onto the mounting pins.
Reinstall the valve motor
Place the valve motor in place.
Reinstall the top cover
Put the back of the top cover into the rear tabs and push the front of the top cover into the locking clips. Don't open the lid.
The power cord needs to be plugged in.
