How do I replace a Suction Motor in a Canister Vacuum?

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Remove the exhaust filter.

Lift the exhaust filter cover off the vacuum cleaner by pulling the release tab. The housing has an exhaust filter.

  2. Remove the canopy hood.

Lift the canopy hood by pulling the plastic release tab. The hood should be removed from the canister.

  3. Remove the motor cover.

The 4 screws that hold the motor cover need to be removed.

  4. Remove the motor.

(not-been-paraphrased) With the wires still attached, carefully lift the suction motor out of the canister. Remove the foam padding that surrounds the motor.  Note the location of the wires and then disconnect them. Remove the motor and set aside for disposal. Tip: Take a digital photo of the connections before removing the wires.

  5. Install the new motor.

The wires need to be connected to the motor. Wrap the motor around the canister and slide it into it.

  6. Reinstall the motor cover and canister hood.

Attach the screws and tighten the motor cover. Attach the hood to the canister.

  7. Reinstall the exhaust filter.

The exhaust filter needs to be reinstalled at the back of the canister. Remove the exhaust filter cover.

Time required: 15 minutes.

You would need the following tools: phillips screwdriver, work gloves.
