How do I replace a Timer in a Dishwasher?

The dishwasher's electrical components include the wash pump, drain pump, inlet water valve, and heating element. The control panel has a control knob. If the timer fails to start or stop, you should replace it.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off electrical power

If you want to completely disconnected electrical power to the dishwasher, you can flip the house circuit breaker switch to the off position. Make sure the control panel can't be used to turn on the power.

  2. Remove the timer knob

The control panel has a timer knob on it.

  3. Remove the door latch handle knob

The latch handle knob has aPhillips screw under it. Remove the handle knob from the handle.

  4. Separate the outer door panel from the inner door panel

Remove all the screws on the inner door panel. Shut the door and put the dishwasher in the back of the house. Pull the outer door panel down to separate the door panels and then access the timer that is attached to the outer door panel. The inner door panel won't open.

  5. Remove the timer

The wire harness is attached to the timer. The screws that hold the timer to the mounting structure need to be removed.

  6. Attach wires to the new timer

Attach the wires to the new timer the same way they were connected to the original timer. The timer mounting screws need to be reinstalled.

  7. Reattach the outer door panel to the inner door panel

The outer door needs to be closed so that it can fit with the inner door panel. Open the door if you are able to open the inner and outer door panels. The inner door panel should be against the outer door panel. The screws that hold the inner door panel and outer door panel together need to be reinstalled. Machine threaded screws are used for the mounting screws that fit in the bottom corners of the door. To properly secure the inner door panel to the door frame, these machine threaded screws have to go back into the bottom corners of the inner door panel.

  8. Reinstall the door latch handle knob.

Remove the knob from the door latch handle and replace it with a new one.

  9. Restore electrical power

The On position is where the house circuit breaker switch should be flipped. After you restore electricity the dishwasher display should light up. The dishwasher buttons need to be tested.

Time required:

15 minutes.
