How do I replace a Timer in a Dryer?

You can set the drying time by turning the timer's control knob. The timer has a small motor on the back. The various electrical components in the dryer are operated by the internal cams and contacts of the timer. If the contacts don't work, the dryer won't start, the timer won't advance, or the dryer won't heat up.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off the power

Plug the dryer in. Shut off the gas if it is a gas dryer.

  2. Remove the control knob

The control panel has a timer control knob on it.

  3. Remove the back panel

If you want to remove the screws from the back panel, move the dryer forward. Take the back panel out of the dryer.

  4. Remove the timer

Before removing the wires from the timer, you should note the location of the wires. If you take a picture of the wires, you will know how to connect them later. The back of the timer has wires on it. Attach the timer to the mounting screws.

  5. Install the new timer

Attach the new timer to the control panel with screws. Attach the wires to the timer. To avoid damage to the new timer, the wires must be properly connected. A service technician can help you connect the wires.

  6. Reattach the back panel

The back of the console has a panel on it. Attach the mounting screw holes and tighten them.

  7. Reinstall the control knob

The stem of the new timer has a control knob on it.

  8. Restore power to the dryer

The dryer can be plugged into the wall outlet. If it is a gas dryer, turn on the gas supply.

Time required:

15 minutes.

You would need the following tools:

1/4-inch nut driver, phillips screwdriver, slot screwdriver, work gloves.
