How do I replace a User Interface Control in a Dishwasher?

The user interface control displays information such as the remaining cycle time and the selection buttons. When you press the buttons, the user interface control will not light up or respond. When the user interface control won't light up or respond when you press its buttons, you can refer to the tech sheet for diagnostic tests or have a service technician test it. If the user interface control is faulty, replace it.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Shut off electrical power

The dishwasher should be unplugged or the house circuit breaker turned off. The control panel should not light up when you hit a control button or power button to verify that power is disconnected.

  2. Remove the outer door panel and control panel

The dishwasher door can be opened with the removal of the screws from the inner door panel. The outer door panel needs to be supported with one hand as you remove the last two screws. The outer door panel and control panel should be separated from the inner door panel. Remove the outer door panel and control panel.

  3. Remove the user interface control

Pull the door handle away from the locking tabs. The user interface control screws can be removed. Pull out the user interface control after releasing the locking tabs.

  4. Install the new user interface control

To engage the side locking tabs, push the user interface control into the control panel. Remove the user interface control screws. The locking tabs need to be engaged to return the door handle to its previous position.

  5. Reinstall the outer door panel and control panel

If you want to connect the user interface control wire harness, position the outer door panel and control panel close to the inner door. Attach the outer door panel and control panel to the inner door panel by connecting the user interface control wire harness. The mounting screws need to be reinstalled. The longer screws can be used to secure the control panel.

  6. Restore electrical power

Plug in the dishwasher or reset the house circuit breaker.
