How do I replace a Wall Control in a Garage Door Opener?

When you press the button, the wall control won't move the garage door. The garage door can be opened or closed by a faulty wall control. If the wall control doesn't work, replace it.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Disconnect power

The power cord and motor unit of the garage door opener can be accessed using a step ladder. The garage door opener needs to be unplugged.

  2. Remove the wall control

Pull the control button from the old wall control if you want to release the locking tabs. The top screw needs to be removed. Pull the wall control up to let it go from the screw. Remove the wire screws from the wall control.

  3. Install the new wall control

Pull the control button off the wall control if you want to release the locking tabs. The wires need to be connected to the wall control. Attach the white wire to the terminal marked white and the red wire to the terminal marked red. Push the bottom mounting slot on the wall control onto the bottom mounting screw and slide the wall control downward to lock it into the bottom screw. The top mounting screw needs to be installed. Push the top tabs of the control button into the top wall control slots and then snap the bottom tabs of the control button into the bottom wall control slots.

  4. Reconnect electrical power

The garage door opener should be plugged in.
