How do I replace an Oven Door Hinge in a Gas Range?

If the hinges on the oven door are damaged or bent, it's time to replace them. To ensure even tension on both sides of the door, replace the hinges even if only one is damaged.

It's possible that the oven door lock assembly has failed and needs to be replaced, if the oven doesn't automatically lock when you start the self-clean cycle or it doesn't open after cooling to room temperature. If the child lock-out doesn't work on an oven that has that feature, you should replace it.

There is a relay control board in some ranges. The bake element or a surface element can be controlled by electrical relays on the relay board. The relay control board needs to be replaced if it is malfunctioning.

Follow these steps to fix your issue:

  1. Unplug the range

Pull the range forward and then plug it. Someone can help you move the range. To prevent scratching the flooring, put the range on cardboard.

  2. Remove the back panel

Press the panel against the range as you remove the last couple of screws to make sure it doesn't fall. To set the panel aside, lower it to the floor. Before removing the back panel, you might need to loosen the power cord. The Installation Guide shows how to remove the power cord.

  3. Disconnect the wires from the door lock assembly

If you want to attach the wires to the door lock assembly the same way, you need to take a picture of the wires and mark them with numbered pieces of masking tape. The oven door lock motor assembly has wires that need to be disconnected.

  4. Remove the door lock assembly

Attach the door lock assembly to the mounting screws. Pull the oven door lock motor assembly down to release it from the connecting rod. The door lock assembly needs to be removed from the range.

  5. Install the new oven door lock assembly

Put the connecting rod in the opening of the oven door lock motor assembly. Attach the door lock assembly to the assembly.

  6. Reconnect the wires

The digital image or numbered tags show the location of the wires on the oven door lock assembly.

  7. Reattach the back panel

Put the outer back panel on the back of the range so that the holes are in place.

  8. Plug in the range

Push the range into position by plugging in the range. The anti-tip brackets need to be properly engaged in the rear leveling foot.

  9. Remove the door

The oven door should be opened fully. The locking tabs on the unlocked side of the door can be pried down with a slot screwdriver. The door to the broil stop is open. Lift up and remove the oven door if you want to. The hinges and tension springs should be matched correctly when the door hinges are replaced. Before beginning this repair, have both hinges on hand. If you want to remove the door from your model, check the owner's manual.

  10. Remove the handle

A towel-covered table is a good place to place the oven door. Remove the screws that secure the door handle to the top of the oven door by using the type of screwdriver that fits the screws. The handle should be removed. The screws hold the handle in place. Remove the handle and the trim might shift.

  11. Remove the inner door panel

The oven door has screws at it. Set the inner door panel assembly on the padded surface after removing it from the outer door panel.

  12. Remove the hinge

The inner oven door panel has 2 screws on it. The inner door panel has a hinge.

  13. Insert the new door hinge

The inner door panel assembly has a new door hinge in it. Attach the screws to the door hinge.

  14. Reassemble the door panels

The outer door panel and frame should be positioned above the inner door panel. Carefully lower the inner door panel assembly. Attach the inner door panel assembly to the outer door panel frame with the help of the screws at the bottom of the door.

  15. Reattach the handle

The door handle needs to be positioned at the top of the door. To hold the door handle in place, insert the screws and loosen the screws. If you meet resistance while turning the screw, back out the screw and tighten it again.

  16. Tighten all screws

Give the screwdriver a firm twist to snug the screw in the door handle after you tighten the screws. The screws on the door assembly need to be tightened. Don't be tense.

  17. Reattach the door

The oven door hinges should be put back into the receivers on the front of the range frame when the door is in the broil position. You can open the door and lock it with the hinge locking pins. The door of the oven should be closed. Refer to the owner's manual for directions to get the oven door back in place.
