How do streams work internally?

Stream keeps the order of the data as it is in the source. Streams support Aggregate Operations in a similar way to functional programming languages. The operations that make up the aggregate are filter, map, reduce, find, match and sort. Is this true? Pipelining and Internal Iterations are supported by the Streams.
