How do you fix a bathtub faucet spout?

The easiest way to replace a slip-on spout is to loosen the set screw and remove the copper pipe that protrudes from the wall. You don't want to loosen the pipe connections inside the wall if you twist the spout. Then tighten the set screw after sliding on the new spout.
