How do you hook up two 6 volt batteries to make 12 volts?

You would connect the load to the positive terminal of the first battery to produce 12-volts. The negative terminal of battery # 1 should be connected to the positive terminal of battery #2. The negative terminal of battery # 2 needs to be ground. There are connections in the diagram I have produced.
