The reference number of your meter point (MPRN) can be found on your gas bill. Generally, this is on the first page of your bill or on the back of the first page and measures 10 digits in length.

If the meter starts moving very quickly, the device could be defective. If the meter is still in motion, it is likely to be defective. If it is a gas meter, you could have a gas loss - it immediately communicates to the national emergency gas network at 0800 111 999.

Press the A or B key to wake up the screen. Press the A key again to show the reading of the meter and write down the numbers, including the zeros. It is not necessary to write down the numbers after the decimal.

If you only move it within a meter of your original location, your power provider should be the first call point. If you want to move it out or to a completely different place, you will have to contact the gas carrier or the electricity distributor.

Most meters of water are normally mounted outside the external shut-off valve. It embraces a small metal or plastic lid in your way, garden or near the path. If the meter is inside it can generally not be under the kitchen sink from the internal shut-off valve.
