How do you reinforce a curtain rod bracket?

The curtain rod brackets need to be reinforced with a screw and a drywall anchor if there isn't a stud. A screw can't hold the weight of your curtain rod without a drywall anchor. You could cause a lot of damage if you pull the brackets out of the wall.
