How do you test a reversing valve on a heat pump?

1 The valve will not change from the heating position to the cooling position if it sticks. Make sure the reverse valve is working. Hold a small screw driver close to the coil to see if there is a magnetic field present, then use your voltmeter to make sure the correct voltage is at the coil.
