How does a gfci work internally?

The GFCI is integrated in the outlet itself, unlike a home's fuse. The amount of current flowing from hot to neutral is monitored by the GFCI. It trips the circuit if there is an unbalanced balance. One-thirtieth of a second is how long the GFCI can respond to a mismatch.
