How does a urinal vacuum breaker work?

A vacuum breaker is an attachment that is placed on a bibcock valve or toilet or urinal flush valve to prevent water from entering the public drinking water system. A vacuum breaker usually has a plastic disc that is pressed forward by water supply pressure and covers vent holes.
