How does a vacuum relief valve work?

Pressure/Vacuum Relief Valves are usually mounted on a nozzle on the top of the atmospheric storage tank. Their primary purpose is to protect a tank against implosion by allowing the tank to breathe when pressure in the tank changes due to normal operations.
