How does a water pump fail?
Water pumps are most often operated outside of a belt combination. A bad water pump can cause an overheating engine. A bad and tensive water belt causes premature bearings and tree defects and, as such, drastically reduces the life of the pump. On the other hand, a water pump that inevitably loses affects the belt and the tensioner.
