How does EGR reduce pumping losses?

When the EGR speed is increased, the exhaust valve opens and closes first. This results in much lower gasodynamic losses due to the decrease of the exhaust flow through the exhaust valves and the low suction flow through the suction valves, so that the pumping losses decrease with the increase of the EGR speed.
