How many hours a day should HVAC run?

The number of hours your HVAC runs for will depend on the season and the temperature you wish to maintain in your home. In extreme temperatures, you can expect your HVAC system to run longer than in mild temperatures. In terms of operation, your HVAC's run-time is measured in cycles. Your air conditioner should run two to three cycles every hour to maintain the temperature in your home– each cycle lasting between ten to fifteen minutes. Avoid running your HVAC system 24/7 to preserve energy and system durability.
