How many volts is a thermostat?

24Vac is the most common type of voltage from a central heating and cooling system. It's possible that the old thermostat says it's for maximum 24V or maximum 30V. A low voltage thermostat won't work with your system if you see 120Vac or 240Vac on the thermostat.
