How much water do you use when you flush the toilet?

The amount of water released by flushing varies from toilet to toilet. The older a toilet is, the more water it uses. Toilets that were built before 1982 use between 5 and 7 gallons per flush. 1.6 gallons of water is all that's needed to flush toilets.
